Type of fly caddis dry fly
Originator of pattern if known Fran Betters, innovative fly tyer and fly shop owner of The Adirondack Sport Shop in Wilmington NY near the Ausable River (NY).
Tied and Submitted by peregrines
Level of tying experience needed to tie this pattern Beginner, a fairly simple pattern using basic tying skills
Materials listed in order of tie in:
Hook Dry Fly
Thread Orange
Tail None
Body Hare’s ear dubbing
Wing White Calftail tied “down wing” style, length to bend of hook
Hackle Brown and grizzly mixed, heavily hackled
Head Orange thread
Special tying notes Tie on thread, and dub body from point directly above barb to front ¼ of shank. Select bunch of calftail, length to end of bend. Tie in a brown and grizzly hackle and wrap a dense collar. Tie off hackles and form thread head.
Target species Trout
Fishing notes This is a heavily hackled pattern for fast water. The white wing helps visibility.
