Default What Litespeed size?

I just picked up a St Croix 8'6" Avid 5wt. I want to put a Lamson Litespeed on it. Should I go with a #2 or 1.5.

wild trout is on a distinguished road
Default Re: What Litespeed size?

I have a Helios 5 wt and the 2.0 balances nice. I would try each reel and see which one balances on it best.

Yeah....The 2 size is only a fraction of an ounce heavier, and would be useful
on 6wt rods as well. I try to get the biggest reel without it looking goofy.

I was going to say the 1.5 (as that is what I have) but what is wrong with a Konic?
Why do you want to put a reel that cost about double what the rod costs on?
If it were me, the rod and the line are the most important, the reel is just a place to stow the line so to speak.
A Konic and some Sharkskin....;-)

Always err on the big side, #2, more backing and with a 5wt you can go fishing for steelhead or silvers or...........................

Plenty of room for backing, that is a good thing

Maybe with a Steelie, but in the 6 years I have had mine, I have never seen the backing and have landed some bodacious Trout.. ( actually, I just wanted to add bodacious to the sentence LOL)
But true story. I will agree though the weight isn't an issue, but ones loaded with more backing and line it will be heavier. Not enough that one might notice though.

Nothing wrong with KONIC but after working for 35 years and putting three kids thru college I think I can spurge a little so that is what I want to do. Same reason I shoot a Copper instead of a Remington these days. I actually put a #2 velocity I have on the rod and it balances very well. Think the #2 Litespeed which is a little lighter will balance ver well. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Splurge Indeed! My wife and I finished with our only kid in 2006, and have
been living it up !

The Avid is around $250 new, so rod and reel cost nearly the same. A good
reel is a good reel, regardless of the rod's price. It would be sort of weird
looking on a Snoopy rod, but the Avid's cosmetics are very nice.

Didn't mean anything by the Konic. Same people ;-)
Just saying that is the way I would go....a suggestion is all.
Truth be known, I too have a lite speed and no Konic....;-(
But I will someday....LOL
