Default Newb Question.. And need opinions.

So i currently have a lamson konik in the 5/6 weight. I have a 7 weight rod that needs a reel. WOuld it be a bad idea to buy another spool for the 5/6 and load it up with 7 weight line? If so i was looking at the okuma slv or the allen & co xl reel.

Also i plan to get the rio dc sink tip what grain would be best for a 7 wt rod. The rod is an albright a-5 if that matters.

Thank you

Russ

You could use the Konic 5/6 on a 7 weight rod, but you will lack line capacity.

It seems like many people on the board are pleased with the Allen & Co. reels. The price is reasonable, so choose the battle that makes most sense to you. Personally, I would rather have another reel than a spare spool, so I can have two rigs ready to go at a moment's notice.

A 7 weight rod can throw either the 200 grain or the 250 grain sink tip lines. I prefer the 200 grain line for slower rods and the 250 grain line for medium fast and fast action rods.
