cortland fly reel

I found a cortland reel i had from the 90's still in the box. Its a medium size , no adjustable drag on her.would a 7wt line be to much for a medium reel. I think the name was a cortland medium firefly, and it was made in England.

I have a feeling it may be one of the Hardy made Cortlands. You might be able to get a 7 weight line on it, but backing capacity might be small. Measure the outer diameter of the spool and the spool width. I am assuming that it is a standard arbor design.

Thanks pescador, I picked it up awhile back , store went out of busines.
It took a 7wt line great and filled the reel perfect. I'll use it for a back up rod
for sml mouth bass.

Just for fun, fish it. Put a big bass on the end of your line, and listen to the click pawls sing!
