starter reel, budget 40-60

New to fly fishing and looking for a reel to match my St Croix Premiere 8' 5wt. I will mainly be fishing for panfish, smaller bass and occasionally trout.

I'm considering the Hobbs Creek model from Bass Pro but curious if anyone had some other options in my price range. Thanks

Here's a good one http://thefullcreel.com/product_info...products_id=58 The Hobbs Creek reel you mentioned is a fine one as well for the money. Bumping up to $80 would mean many more fine reels are an option. I would recommend the ECHO reel and the Corland Endurance reel in particular.

I have the Endurance, and for a low cost reel it works fine for me.

Well I've decided to up my budget to 80 dollars. I would much rather have a machined reel with a large arbor. The Pflueger Summit looks like a very nice reel and the price is definately right. Any opinions on this reel? Thanks again.

Cabelas has some reels in large arbor for $80 & under. Check out they're website. I have a CSR large arbor. Decent reel for the money.

A little late to post,

but FLY LOGIC reels are made in the USA........and can be found on Ebay for a rather cheap price..........the drag system on the FLP reels is the best I have ever used......I have used the FLP 567 reel to land salmon that ran up to 28 pounds........no kidding.........the reel is a workhorse......they also sell FLO reels..........the upperend of their line.....these reels are fancy looking and cost quite a bit of money!!!!.........they have regular arbor and large arbor models available in the FLO..........lots of neat colors too!!!!!

the FLP comes in 345, 567 and 890, for a 5 wt line you could use the 345 with about 80 yards backing........or go with the 567 and you could put a bunch of backing on....

these reels are great............their customer service is the best I have ever come across!!!!
