Default Switch reels?

Whats everyone's favorite reel for a switch rod? Looking to get a 7weight for steel, just wondering what kind of reel I should be looking for? Do i need to step up to like a 9-10 wieght reel for this type of fishing??

When I was looking at combos for two-handers, I was looking at a 12'6" 7wt, and was going to balance this with an Allen Alpha II 9-10. I already have one of these reels, and you can't go wrong with it, the smooth start-up will protect light tippets but it can put a hurtin' on hot steel if you need to. While you could definitely go with a 7-8 reel and not be far off, I hear a lot of people bumping up into the 9-10 range for two-handers, plus the increased spool sizes is better for dealing with the heavier grain lines.

Typically you step up the reel size. Not so much for balance but to fit the lines on the spool. A 100' running line plus the head take up more space than a singlehanded fly line. If the line fits on a 7-8 reel that you already have I would try it out before buying another reel.

Ok thanks.. I've got a Lamson Litespeed 3.5 might give it a try first and see. I know it holds an enourmous amount of backing on it with its large arbor.. Might be able to get it to work! Thanks for the insight!
