Default Able Creek 1 vs Trout 2

Hello-- I currently have a Winston 4wt, 7'6" BiiT that I have paired with a Galvan Torque 3 and am looking at adding another Winston 5wt, 9' BiiiX. I would like to add a reel that could accomodate both 4 and 5wt line equally well.

At this point, I really am interested in Abel reels, especially the Creek 1 and Trout 2 series. What recommendations do you all have?

I would err towards the Creek 1 model in the standard arbor configuration. That would give you ample backing capacity for both 4 and 5 weight lines.

The TR2 might feel too heavy especially when loaded on the short 4 weight due to the extra backing.

I just got a Creek a month or so ago, I really like it allot. It took a few fish before I got used to palming a reel again, it has the same feel as my old CFO.

I have an Abel Creek 2 on my Winston TMF, great reel. I have Galvan Torques on my other Winston's. If you want to go old school with a cick and pawl vs. a drag, get the Abel. I love the Abel on spring creeks with 3-4 wt rods, I've never fished one on a 5 wt. good luck!

I have a TR1 on my 4wt, I couldn't imagine putting a 2 on there. The TR1 balances my Scott F2 perfectly.

I use a TR-1 some on my shorter 4 weight cane rods. Plenty of capacity for backing and it balances the rods well. I think the TR and CR series reels are about the best light line click and pawl reels out there.

I have a standard Creek 1 on my 4WTon my Winston Bii and it is an ideal fit.
I have also used it on my 5 WT rods.
The TR 2 is an ideal 5 WT, the TR 1 a true 3 WT.
The narrow spool provides some of the benefit associated with mid and large arbor reels.
The standard arbor provides some flexibility in use, these will take also take a 5 WT line.
