Default Medalist foot. Will some fit modern rods?

My medalist reels appear to fit modern reel seats. What gives? Was there a year they modernized? have 4 DA medalist reels that are currently used on my vintage gear. I have agreed to give some of the rods to my cousin (it was all passed down from our grandpa) and I was thinking about replacing the 6wt and 8wt rods (fenwick and orvis) with some modern rods. I love the medalists and would like to keep using them. So I stopped by the local fly shop with my reel expecting it not to fit without a foot replacement but it fit the reddington rods almost as we'll as the brand new reels on display. Is this a "luck of the draw" thing or did the 70's medalists have modern feet?

Most USA made medalists' feet are only slightly longer than what you'd find on a more modern reel. Only the "and a half" sized feet were wider. (and the larger 1498).
On the majority of modern reel seats, they'll fit fine.

Since we're talkin' vintage medalists, I just saw this over on another site.

Long history (personal) connected to those reels. Simple, inexpensive, and damned near bullet proof. Only had one 'fail' on me ..... and it took a good sized King Salmon to do that. (Frame warped, fish lost.)

My 1494 model from the 70's fits fine on my Z-Axis.
