Nice brown! That looks like the Owyhee river here in Oregon (though I'm sure there are many similar rivers here in the west).

Good to hear about the FWX though.. I think that about seals it for me. I'd previously thought about getting a less expensive reel (like an Alpha or a WLX from Cabelas), but I'd rather just spend a little more up front and have something I never really have to worry about.

Also, regarding a second hand rod, I'd be a little concerned about a warranty. Does Scott honor their warranty after the rod is sold to a second owner? It might be worth a little extra money up front for the security.

Scott only warranties to the original owner. But they will fix a section for like $100

You won't be dissatisfied with a Nautilus reel. Not at all.

You won't be disappointed.
Every reel they have made is high quality.
I am still using my Old Florida #3 (from the companies their beginning) in the CA surf.

I would recommend saving some bucks and getting the Orvis Hydros IV reel instead. It can handle any challenge you throw at it. Only $205 with their current $50 off promotion (running though Xmas).

Or if you want more spool capacity, spend an extra $25 and get the Hydros V.

Look into a Bauer MX4 before you buy anything. They're over your budget, but rock solid with an outstanding drag (smooth and strong). I have one on my BVK 8wt and love it. If you look on YouTube, there's a video where they attach one to a motorcycle to simulate a ~25mph bonefish run.

Their MXP series is a bit cheaper but also really nice.

Both series have been discontinued and you can find them at closeout prices if you look around. Sierra Trading Post has some and I have seen them for even cheaper at the Big Auction Website. The best price I have seen is $270 for an MXP4 at the Gorge Fly Shop: Bauer CFX Fly Reels
