Vintage Ross S3 Thomas and Thomas Trophy reel with leather case.

Does anyone have any information about this mint condition vintage reel. sold to me and unable to find anything about it except one member in this forum from last year. Very curious about it. I'm guessing its very rare.

Hi kentonmanz,

I think we can help you with identifying your reel. Could you post a description of the reel or a picture.

Frank

Yes frank, its a large arbor black enclosed sides reel. The logo engraved says Thomas and Thomas Trophy. RR. Its made by Ross as far as i know. Had a brown leather case also embroidered Thomas and Thomas. The picture link is as follows.

I would love to know about this reel and what it might be worth. The fact that i cannot find anything about it piques my curiosity.

Hi,

There's one on the Reel Love thread. Pretty rare actually, I've never seen one in hand.

I saw yours, I'm talking about one posted by CW76, a member from Homer AK. last year.

As for ascertaining value, the best way I can advise would be to put it for auction with an opening bid of 49.99 and see how much people will bid.

Hi kentonmanz,

Thanks for the pictures. I think you have it figured out. It is a Ross Reel made for Thomas & Thomas. To me it wouldn't have any more value than a standard S3. To a collector of Ross Reels it may have a slight premium in value. That is, if there is such a thing as a Ross Reel collector.

Does anyone know what they would recommend as a good fly weight line for this reel? I'm curious to get it on the water and see how it handles. Thank you. _Kyle

Re: Vintage Ross S3 Thomas and Thomas Trophy reel with leather case.

I'll have to guess because I don't see size & weight specs on any posts here...... I would guess it to be a 3.5 or 3 5/8" reel X at least 1.25" spool width. With that I would think it right at home on a 9'6" 7 weight for small to medium river steelhead or trout. To be fair I would start watching the auction site for a vintage T&T in the size and weight I mentioned. I would think that would be a really sweet setup.
