Default Saracione vs Peerless

I probably should know the answer to this, but I figure I'd give it a whirl up here.

I'm researching getting a bamboo rod and have been fielding some choices for a classic reel. I've come across a Peerless (from New Hamp.) and a Saracione (Oregon).

There is close to a $200 difference between the two models (Mark IV Trout vs. Model 2A Peerless).

If anyone can offer any information on these it would be great. I've checked both web sites and I can't 'read between the lines' to find the $200 difference.

Much thanks.

Overhead maybe, Saracione is a larger company, more employees, larger facility , higher manufacturing cost, Peerless is a little smaller, less overhead expenses. Then again I could be 100% totally wrong!! It sounds reasonable though

Sounds as good as any.

The Saracione is CNC machined the Peerless site says they are 'handmade'..same thing? If the latter requires more handwork I'd think it'd cost more. Both offer limited lifetime warranties.

Could it be the Saraciones have been around longer? Which translates into name recognition/credit so they cost more? I've read that the owner is somewhat famous (for what I don't know) and the first reels were in fact not CNC machined...some of those go for $2500. Too rich for my blood.

Are the Peerless merely a more economical version of the Saraciones? I suspect both are close reproductions of Edward vom Hofe reels, the former even taking the name of vom Hofe's reel.

I know sending an email to each is in the near future. Just wondering what I can glean from this learned group.

Joe's shop is small. He has one or two employees that make every part with state of the art machinery. Sarcione, an engineer, designs the reels. They are unique (not reproductions) and beautifully made. If you want to save money buy the cheaper one. If you want the best, acquire a Sarcione...

Wow that's a beauty of a Saracione. I'm leaning toward that over the Peerless as far as a black reel goes.

I've also looked at a few willow reels. These are made in Korea by one man without any CNC machining. Evidently there have only been about 200 sold in the 4.5 years the company has been in business.

I own a Peerless 1.5A. It is an outstanding reel. Excellent craftsmanship.

I'd take a hard look at Speyco's reels. They are made in GB,Wisconsin. Beautiful reels. I own a single spey. Love it to death.
