Default Backing for TR1

The Abel TR1 doesn't have a lot of line capacity. How much backing can I put on with 90 feet of fly line?

That really depends on what line size you are using. This should help you out a lot. Abel Automatics, Inc. :: Fly Reels :: Trout Series (TR)

That chart is a help; however if you are going to use a double taper line you have to cut backing length almost in half.

Hi Leithel, best advice I can give you, is to do it in reverse, make a loose connection of your line to the spool, then wind it on, and attach the backing, preferably micro backing, and keep winding until the spool is full.
Once you are happy, pull It off and attach the backing to he spool, and wind it all on again, sure in the knowledge it will now fit.
Works for me.
Good luck, S.
