Default Looking for a Bonefish Reel

I need a bonefish reel for an 8 wt SH 9' rod. Would like to spend less than $400 for it. What would recommend?

I use an Abel Super 6n. You can get these for in or around 400 on ebay. Sometimes less. These reels have an incredible drag and are easy to maintain. They're very popular bonefish reels.

The Bauer Rogue 4 is a bit over your price range, but their Mackenzie CFX 4 or 5 are right around $400 and have the Rogue's drag.

Personally, I'd look for an MX4 or MX5, but they've been discontinued for a little while now so might be hard to find.

You can also try to score a lightly used Danielsson (or Loop made by Danielsson) 6nine within your budget. They're great reels.

I'm a big fan of draw bar style cork drag reels. Like Justin said, the drags are incredible and easy to maintain.

If you look hard enough on auction sites, you can find Abel Big Game 3n (standard arbor), Abel Super 8 (large arbor), or Tibor Everglades reels under $400.

Dennis

PS: I'm headed to Christmas Island in October. My main rod will have a 15 year old Abel Big Game 3n which I have used mostly for Striped Bass and Black Bass with some tropical saltwater species (bonefish, baby tarpon) over the years. My secondary rod will have a Bauer Rogue 4 which has been used for steelhead and Black Bass. I have 100% confidence that both reels will hold up to a week's worth of fishing.

I'll say this, my tibor got something in it and locked up a couple of weeks ago, and my Ross CLA 4 held up very well to some screaming runs. Bought it on backcountry for $175, awesome bang for the buck

This should help with some ideas for a bonefish reel.
Don't discount the Orvis Mirage IV. If they had given it 10 for a sealed drag (which it has-as good as any of the other sealed drags) it would have done better.....I don't think they wanted a non domestic (USA) made reel winning!
I have an Abel Super 7 with 8wt line, Orvis Mirgae IV with 8wt and a Sage 8080Pro..all very different and very good.
