Default Pflueger Medalist Reels

Ok, I owned several when I was first getting started in FF. I remember reversing them from right hand to left hand retrieve. I also recall that the click could not be reversed and it was louder on the retrieve than when pulling line out. Am I remembering correctly? There are a couple of reels on the auction site that I'm interested in. Also did the 1/2 designation simply mean a wider spool?

1/2 means wide spool, and as far as I know you are correct about the reversing in regard to the clickers.

Not all Medalist reels are reversible. Back in the good old days, everyone got to learn to reel with their right hand. Of course, once folks got used to using spinning reels, they got into the habit of reeling with their left hand.

There used to be ongoing discussions that left handed people actually had an advantage. As a right hander, I would cast with my right hand, when I catch a fish, I have to transfer the rod to my left hand so I can reel with my right. Back then the idea was a lefty would already be casting with their left hand, so no rod transfer was required.

So if you are a lefty, do you cast with your left and reel with your left? Just curious.

Here's a pretty good step by step for adjusting your adjustable Medalist to suit

p.s. Truth in advertising laws demand me to clearly state, I've actually never preformed the operation myself, I learned to fish in the good old days.

The 2 smallest sizes are clickers and are not meant to be reversible. The 1492 and the 1492 1/2
Earlier models of the larger sizes came right hand wind out of the box.
At some point they switched to left hand wind (out of the blister pack )
