Default Spare Parts

I recently purchased a 70's Hardy Perfect reel and am wondering if any of the other Hardy owners of the reel know why the reel has a second set of pawl and spring. My reel is a RHW. Does anyone know why there is the additional parts. I understand that some are of the opinion that the reel can be converted to LHW without the use of the agate line guard. I cannot see how that would work, since the winding plate screws off in a clockwise direction. Any opinions on the spare parts issue?

Default Re: Spare Parts

I can't say specifically WHY it is part of the design. However, you can use the other set of springs to add extra tension or you have a spare set, built right into your reel.

By the way, if you need springs/pawls, contact Hardy USA. They can ship you out an A-Pack.

Thanks Jaybo, I just received a comment from the Hardy repair manager. He was told and agrees that it is an extra set. He commented that he could supply pawls, springs and handles if needed. Good to know, I have another one (3 3/8") coming shortly. Couldn't pass up a deal. Now all I have to do is find a 2 7/8 in mint / near mint condition for the collection.
