crockerag is on a distinguished road
Default CLA 2 or CLA 3 for 6wt

Any thoughts on a CLA 2 (4/5/6) vs a CLA 3 (5/6/7) for a 6 wt rod. Hope to split duty on my 5 as well. Thanks

Personally I try to fudge towards the bigger one unless there is such a massive weight difference that it would throw your rig out of balance.

I run a Evo LT 2 on one 4wt, Allen Trout II and a Guru 1.5 all on different 4wts. While I like the guru I love the extra space on the larger reels. I don't worry about jamming my reel if the line doesn't spool back up evenly on retrieve.

You can always put more backing on the larger reel to fill it up if need be and that helps with line memory IMHO.

me too...I like the extra backing and feeling of security in case Walter shows up to play. It's paid off several times.

I'd go with the 3.

I'll be the dissenting voice. I had a CLA 2 spooled for a 5wt but it would have been a nice fit on my 9' 6wt as well. Nice sized reel for 5/6 in my opinion, but I don't like over sized reels. I bought it used and sold it because the color was too purple in my eyes, it was called "Grey mist" I believe.

Exactly, and at the opposite end, I have ran an Evo 0 on a 3wt for quite some time.

Then again I have a reel for a 8-10wt rod and I dont own anything bigger than a 6wt, just picked it up on the cheap
dean_mt likes this.
