I am a Hatch Finatic, but also like the galvan and nautilus offerings.
No surprise there .... I suspect they only 'rate' rods and reels that they actually sell. They'll leave out Allen
Rather, what rods and reels a manufacturer chooses to send them.No surprise there .... I suspect they only 'rate' rods and reels that they actually sell.
Makes sense to me.If I were fishing creeks where the beautiful trout rarely strip much line from your reel I likely would favor a spring and pawl check reel and, if we are focusing on new and current models, there are a few beauties. Hardy's Duchess, Abel-built Orvis CFO and Douglas Outdoors Argus would be my top contenders.
Besides Nautilus X, I would anticipate higher praise for the improved Hardy MA and CADD reels, continued enthusiasm for Galvan Torque. I have not fished one but based on my examination at Somerset, I would expect 3-TAND to place well and I have not seen one in years but I know Bauer introduced a new, appealing on paper model not long ago. I think Hatch 4+ and Abel SD are two of the best built reels extant but could loose points for their solid weight in smaller sizes, I'd fish them though.
Not to worry Coug, not 'dissing' the Abel reels. Things are well designed/constructed its the 'price point' for these reels that chills my blood ... and I can afford to buy what ever I want. Actually come to think about it I've only had one reel 'failure.' That Phlug was not up to a large King Salmon.opcorn: Fish won. That my favorite brand will be near the bottom, even though I bought another one from them for a new 6 wt, and will continue to buy from them because they are bomb proof. Sorry Fred, love my Abels in plain black, and don't mind getting the rock rash on them either.
