Exclamation lost... please help!! unusual request

OK, my problem is this...I had a wonderful idea for a christmas gift for someone I love. It involves getting my hands on 3 reels, preferably same manufacturer and same style(or at least type), and they need to be from the following years: 1969, 1994, and one in the 1930's (I haven't pinned the year down yet)

But as you probably know, dating reels is, ummmm, hard. I know next to nothing about fly fishing, and would love to know which manufacturers would have reels from all three dates and who make decently attractive reels, as these will be for decorative purposes. And a huge bonus would be to know where I could purchase them!!

Thanks!!

Try checking on e-bay, some of the antique fishing equipment dealers may be able to get you taken care of, or atleast get you headed in the right direction.
I would think they have a network of some kind that they are able to search and find.

Good luck.

My biggest problem is trying to figure out the ages of the reels I see on e-bay and the other sites. Most people either don't post the year or simply don't know (which is also my problem) But I am trying to muddle through. You see, I am wanting to make a shadow box that displays reels from the year he was born, the year his dad was born, and the year his son was born. So it will have sentimental value as well as being attractive.

If I was you, I would find a reputable dealer on e-bay, contact them and tell them what you are looking for, hopefully they have a network and can do a search for you.

I think your shadow box idea is great.

I have a couple old fly reels that my Great Grandfather bought when he was in his 20s. I assume most of them are from the 1920s considering he was born in 1896 and my grandmother said he stopped fly fishing in 1932 when she was born. Really cool reels.

I think it would work, but it may take some time to find them all. Please keep us in the know and post some pics along the way.
