I got off the phone with Ross today and they told me that the plus type screws were the newer ones. He even hung up and went to go find out for sure and called me back later. They also told me that unless you bought your reel four years ago there should be no issues with the drag. You can send in your reels to them at no charge and they will go over them and refurbish them no matter how old they are.

I spoke with Brandt at Ross. Some of the Evolutions and Rhythms I bought
have "Ross USA" on the reel foot, and others just have "Ross". I asked about
that when I bought the first two Rhythms several weeks ago, and they told
me the "Ross" reels were the newer bunch. I dunno, but I'll report back when I
get the new parts.

that's the same guy I talked to. Nice fellow. He really took the time to make sure I didn't have a bad drag. As long as yours weren't manufactured in the first year you're good to go.

Is your incoming click louder than the outgoing? My reels are set for LH retrieve, and are noisy as all get up reeling in. Maybe that's the fix Brandt
is sending...??? The + sign screws do seem nicer with the o-ring, and the
assembly has a quiet incoming click when set for RH retrieve, so....????

I reel LH too. Incoming sounds different, but I don't think its louder. sounds better going out for sure. My Evo's incoming is louder than my Rhythm even though they have identical drags. Both are louder than my Gunnison. That Gunnison sounds so nice. As long as they are not going to fail I'm good to go. I really like Ross reels. I wish I had a good reason to get one of the new ones with the magnetic spool release. They look sweet.

UPDATE: The new escapement ring assemblys arrived today (QUICK
SERVICE!), and they are indeed the + sign type screw with the o-ring
gasket. Oh well....I learned to live with the louder incoming click already, and
they are nice reels.
