Default Ross Fatal Flaw Design...I Was Right...Sort Of

I bought a few Evolution reels this past weekend, and one was remarkably
more quiet than the others. A quick look at the quiet reel revealed that its
escapement ring was held on by phillips head only screws (the others had
screws that would work with either flat or phillips). I switched escapement
assemblys on the reels, and had a quiet incoming click with LH retrieve when
using the phillips head ring assembly. I called Ross this morning, and they
told me that they had indeed changed the ring design, and they are sending
new rings to me at no charge. I'm so excited !

Ross's customer service rep was very quick to offer the new rings, BTW.
I like that!

Hi FrankB2,

So the Evolution is still evolving,

I guess so...LOL! Having to wait until today to call Ross would have driven
me crazy, but my son was home for the weekend.

The difference in volume between the old and new ring assembly is amazing.
They appear idenitcal, but the outer ring fits with more of a snap on
the new design.

EDIT: I counted the number of holes drilled in the Evolution last night, and it has 168 of them! It wasn't
difficult to count, BTW: only one course needs to be counted on each portion, and then multiplied by
the number of courses....of course !

Ross customer service is second to none. Those old rings cause the drag to free spool if they get wet. The new ones correct the problem. Good thing you called! I love Ross reels.

Good catch on figuring the difference. That was good trouble shooting. Congrats on getting new parts to update your reels.

The Ross Rythm is essentially the same as the Evolution. Would the same apply?

Absolutely! I put the newer ring assembly on one of my Rhythm reels, and it
no longer sounded like the winch on my sailboat.

hmm...i have had my evolution for about two months, fished it twice. I accidentally dunked it one time...actually twice, and there was nothing wrong with it. The drag worked well. I bought the reel about 2 months ago...would this mean i have the new/old model

The newer ring design has four screws that are phillips head only. The old
design has a plus sign type head, and would work with either flat or phillips.
