Default Decal question.

I've got a cheap BPS rod that I really like and I want to add one of those small iridescent Striped Bass decals to the rod right above the grip. How to I go about doing this? I understand that the decal needs to be epoxied in but it would seem like the excess epoxy over the decal would look funny, but scraping/chipping away the old epoxy would also look dumb. Is there a neat looking way to go about doing this?
