Default New toys!

I got a bunch of new toys in the mail over the weekend I can't wait to play with! So far I have a set of rough forms from JD Wagner, finish forms from L. Swearingen, a fresh new Hock A2 blade for my old Stanley 9.5, dial/depth indicator, center gage, honing guide and wet stones and a wicked good set of ******* files with a triangle file. The only downside is I have a while to wait for the main ingredient. It feels like Christmas in April!

Joni,

Those are most of the things you need to build bamboo rods. I'm sure there will be a drip tank and drier in the works soon.

Good deal WT, keep us posted.

I'm rooting for Bash so we have one of our own building, I'm on the short list for early production work. I'd like to keep him at it until he can make me a Spey rod

Thanks for explaining, Ard. They SOUNDED like some kind of wood working tools, but you saved me from having to use google to figure it out....

And WT, I know tha I (and most likely others) would LOVE to see progress photos of a bamboo rod bing constructed!

Sorry for the lack of explanation there everybody. Now you all have me fired up! I'm still out on the drip or hand rubbed finish. I've build a rudimentary beveller based somewhat off the Medved plans I came across but I think it best to get proficient with the old block plane before I start getting ahead of myself. I've also built a drying cabinate but I still need to pick up the duct insulation and duct work for the tempering oven. There's still a few more odds and ends I'll need to get but the source for cane has been narrowed to 2 one being far too exspensive and the other out of stock till some time in May.

Joni I would have jumped at a chance like that but I was fortunate enough to sit in with a neighbor on his build. Its pretty cool I wish I had asked more questions at the time but he was an old fella and well lets just say prone to grumpiness!

Ard you got it! I've got the numbers on a Gillum 6wt that seems perfect for Alaska Bows and the Ard's Nine Three! Spey rod...we'll get there, one day

Just checked the broker's site the cane is finally in but can't ship till the 23rd!!!! Now I'm not sure what to do because there is going to be east coast distribution but that won't be ready until August 1st. Thing of it is I'm not exactly trusting that date as every other date given has been off but its either get my pants pulled down on the shipping costs from Seattle or go stirr crazy waiting for August. I know 3 weeks sounds petty but I've been waiting since bloody April!! Oye Vey!

I think those who claim that "Patience is a virtue" are simply looking for an excuse to procrastinate!! A couple years back I was building a dining room table for the in-laws. The lumber store was out of pre-planed Maple. Being impatient I went out and bought a planer so I could just buy raw Maple and do it myself. I got to start on the project weeks earlier than if I had waited. so personally I say go for it. Is shipping from the west coast worth destroying your happiness??

Then of course you have to take into account that I am broke. There must be a reason for that, but damned if I can see it.
