New life for an old soul

I have a soft spot for old, fiberglas surf rods. I grew up fishing them and used the blanks to make all sorts of rods. When a buddy of mine called from a rumage sale and said "I think I found an old Lami!" I knew exactly what he was doing... Of course I couldn't resist rebuilding it and he was more than happy to let me.

I present to you a Honey Lamiglas 1143

Thanks John, it was originally a spinning rod that was in pretty rough shape. He wanted a conventional to buck tail with so I had to strip it down. I wanted to go "deckhand special" with it and have no reel seat but he fought me on it :). I think the butt would have looked cleaner if it was all cord (plus two less turk's heads to tie).

Im with you on the "deckhand special"on the Lamis. Did you cut it down any for the conventional reel or leave it spinning length?

He wants to throw light buck tails with it (1-1.75 oz) so I left it whole. I figured if its too soft I can knock off the first guide and take 3" off the tip later.

Dig it man! I had one tied with oversized ring plug chucking guides back before I knew what I was holding! If I only had a time machine!

Lol, this one had the same guides. Gigantic, wire frame spinning guides.
