Default Good 4wt blank under $100

I'm considering buildings a 4wt. I want something 7'0''+, in 3 piece or 4 piece, and under $100.

Anyone partial to any blanks in this style?

Just saw that Cabelas has some Traditional II and Pac Bay Rainforest blanks on sale. Any thoughts between the two?

I have a Traditional II in 5wt. It was a complete rod that I got a couple years ago on clearance from Cabelas. I really like it and have caught a lot of nice fish on it. I do have it overlined with 6wt and feel like it really improved the rod. I'm not going to say definitively that it has to be overlined since I am not an expert caster and it may just be compensating for my casting flaws.

I really like the color of the blank and I think it looks like a much more expensive rod than it is. Seems pretty tough too.

I'm worried that the Traditional II blanks aren't rated very accurately. I read a review somewhere that said the 5wt actually makes a better 8wt stick.

Nick,
I've been contemplating a 7' 4 wt myself, strongly considering this one.
Batson Rainshadow RX7 2 Piece 7' 4 Weight FLY ROD Blank Olympic Green | eBay

I have a couple Batson rods, if this blank is anywhere near as nice, being satisfied is a non-issue for me.

I don't know if it is that far off but I definitely like it a lot better with 6wt on it. Maybe I'll try going up another one someday. I know that my BVK 5wt throws 5wt line better than the Traditional II.

I saw those and thought they were pretty nice, but note sure I really want a 2pc. I do actually really like the idea of a 2pc rod, as I HATE putting pieces together (even though I know it only takes a second) but worried I might need to travel with it one day and it would be annoying.

I like 2 piece rods and carry my 4-pc in a 2-pc case only partially broken down on fishing trips. However, when I travel in my dirty Cobalt, the 2-pc case won't fit in the trunk or even laying across the back seat.

Yeah, that's what I'm worried about. My favorite has always been 3 pieces.

My first thought was that Batson blank, but figured the 2pc would be a turn-off. I'm with you, the only two piece rods I have are bamboo. Wish I knew of others, but not 4wts in that length for under 100.
