Default Recommend a fly rod building book

I might be interested in building fly rods and would like a book that gives a pretty good intro and some good instructions etc. I have never done it but looks like a fun project/hobby.

thanks

I found that Handcrafting A Graphite Fly Rod by L. A. Garcia was great first book for me. Frank Amato Publications.

+1 for the Garcia book. I also found Fly Rod Building Made Easy to be a helpful one. I think I found both through inter-library loan while I lived in Michigan so that is worth looking into.

I built four based on this video series of by John Carver:

As well as internet surfing a lot of rod building sites. In the end, I would rather have someone showing me then reading.

Check with your local fly fishing clubs and shops. Many offer classes at a very reasonable price. That way you can 1) knock down the learning curve extremely fast and 2) get your questions answered by a real person with the everything sitting right there.
