Default Flip an uplocking seat upside down to make it downlocking?

The title asks the question, here are the specifics:

I am building a two-handed rod for the first time. I want a down locking reel seat but unfortunately it seems pretty hard to find down locking seats in general, but in large sizes even harder.

But since the seat is going to be sandwiched in between cork is there any reason why I should not just flip an up locking seat and mount it with the fixed hood down?

Thanks!

Shouldn't be an issue. However, downlocking seats often had a decorative piece between the seat and the upper grip, you'll be missing this but I don't think it is anything but aesthetic.

Right, that is the only thing that I've thought about. But a couple of the seats I'm considering actually have a ring for if you were to use a fighting but. Otherwise I was wondering if could possibly drill out the end cap to fit the blank through...doubtful.

Yeah that's a good possibility too.

I am so ready to start this project but alas not fully. I need to order the parts tomorrow, and I hope to build my drill lathe cradle/stand this weekend.
