Default New line of Batson blanks !

I see Batson released the new blanks. The Eternity 2 fast action will be on my build list for this winter. I got a quote of $142 (ish) for a 9' 5 wt. The RX7 is now the Revelation and they have new 2 hand rods in the line up as well. I think the RX7 blanks are as good or better than many rods in the 400/500 dollar range so I am very interested in what the Eternity will be like.

Batson makes a fine blank, the RX7 blank is as good as anything I've built on to this point over the last 20 yrs.

I spoke with Mike Thorson (Chief Design Eng.) He told me that I probably would not notice a difference casting in the RX7 and new Revelation , the changes are more weight and blank strength. The Eternity 2 is all new , not the RX8 , and a fast rod with feel able to compare with the high end market. There is also the Immortal series which is the 2 hand rods. There seems to be some confusion on the new catalog as they list the Revelation (RX7) as a "Fast Action" thus there would be a gap in the new series w/o a mod/fast blank.

I noted they are keeping some 2 pc blanks also , which I like.

Same here on the 2pc blank. Thanks for the heads up, I'm gonna take a peek at their site now.

Hm. Eternity, Revelation, Immortal... I sense a theme.

Norman Maclean and his dad notwithstanding, maybe someone should remind them that Jesus called his disciples away from their fishing.

I've built 4 Batson rods and I'm not in a rush to do another one.

The 8' 5wt was so unremarkable that I gave it away after a single trip.
After that there were three 9wts that all broke.
Rather than build a 4th, I just took parts from the other 3 and put them together. Different colored blanks, but that's okay
It's a good rod and I use it sometimes, but I keep expecting it to blow up.
Not exactly what I want to have my mind on while I'm fishing.

I am not a rod builder but I've heard a lot about the Batson Rainshadow and Angler Roost blanks. Is one better than the other?
I am trying to convince myself to buy a cheap 4wt 9ft and convert it to a double hand by adding the bottom handle.

Interesting ! I don't know about the upper wt. rods , I have built and used a 4 & 5 wt. and found them to be quite nice similar to the VXP. I would be interested if others have had rods break. I know there are quite a few of them used up on the Salmon river NY.

I am only guessing but I think the SH 4 wt. blank would be a bit thin and light for spey style casting in the RX7 , perhaps a stiffer rod. I say this b/c I have tried doing a snap T and double spey with the Batson and it does not handle it as well as my T&T Horizon which is a faster and stiffer blank.

Perhaps and older IM6 blank would serve you better , you got me thinking now , I have a older (heavier) IM6 10' 5 wt. I built in class, I will have to take it out and see ..........

It is a lot thicker in the butt than todays light and thin blanks
got it from Cotes Fly & rod Shop in MA.

You could also call Batson and ask for Karry , he will have all the answers

You answered a few questions in your reply Eastfly66, I was wondering the kind of action that would allow a SH to be converted to DH. I'll give batson a call and try to confuse them.

Let us know what they had to say ? They have great customer service there.

I have been thinking, I would agree with Rip Tide that the blank/rod is "unremarkable" and I find it similar to the VXP , but what is remarkable is that I can build the RX7 for $130 and the VXP was $500 +

The VXP may have had a slight edge but I don't know about a 400 dollar edge!

Just my opinion Rip , no offense intended

I don't think the VXP SH 4 wt. I tried would not have liked those non linier spey cast either , but I do have a VXP 7133 that does ! (closeout 395)
