Default Rainshadow RX7+

Hi All,

Has anyone built and or cast a Rainshadow RX7+ blank 8'6" 4wt or 5wt? I was thinking of having my shop guy custom build me one. He says they are good blanks and turn out to be pretty good rods altogether. But he is only one opinion and if I am going to plunk down some $ for a custom I need to know some more. I did cast a RX7 he had built as his shop rod but did not know how that would compare to the faster RX7+

Thanks in advance.
John

i don't think the RX7+ would be considered a "faster" blank than the RX7. maybe quicker in "recovery" than an RX7 but they're both considered medium-fast tapers by batson. if you look at batson's web site you'll see a diagram of the blank's flex and it's a smooth progression from tip down to butt. when i hear "fast" i think of a somewhat more flexible tip. i hear good things about the RX7+, some call it smooth casting. i have what may be an rx7+ in the 9' 4wt version i'm looking forward to wrapping someday.

hopefully others with experience with both can add some input.

I have built on that blank before. I built a 9' five weight rod. The blank is described as very fishable, I would would go along with that. I would NOT classify the blank as fast. It is more of medium to medium fast action. The quality of the blank is very good. Personally I liked the action of the RX8+ or the Dan Craft sig V better.
