Sage DS II 890 opinions?

I'm hopefully trading one of my Bows to a guy tomorrow for this rod 9ft at 8wt with a Scientific angler reel on it. Anyone gotten a chance to use one of these? Wondering if it'll be a good bass/stripper and maybe a canada Pike rod.

I sold quite a few of them back when. Its action is pretty perfectly suited to a new fly angler or someone used to casting lighter rods. Very well made and plenty of power for big fish.

I owned one in a 9' wt configuration. Loved the way it was built and cast.
Which SA reel? I'm guessing you could find that rod on ebay for $125, but
if it's a good SA reel, it might be a deal.

is this rod the same as the Sage Graphite II ?

The DS II was the sequel to their Discovery series. It was marketed as their beginner rod and was indeed well suited to folks learning how to cast. I think it was made from what Sage called Graphite II, but that wasn't the model name. They were also making rods from Graphite III (RPLXi and others) when the DS II was out, and I think even some from Graphite IV (SP or SLT?).

If they made a rod under the model name "Graphite II", it was likely the same time or even earlier than the Discovery series, not the DS II.
