Default St. Croix 8'6" AVid A865.4

Anyone fish this rod? I have an opportunity to pick up a new one for $150.00Looks like decent rod and I could use a 5wt. I am wondering how fast of a rod this is. I prefer a more moderate action.

In terms of today's stiff rods, the Avid is truly moderate-fast. They are a joy
to fish with, and the workmanship is excellent. I bought a 5wt Avid, but it
was 9'. The Avid is only $230 full retail, so I'd make sure that was the length
and wt you really want. I happen to like 8'6" 5wt's, and think that the Avid
would be really nice in that length.

I was able to get out last week before the weather turned in PA. Got three
stocked rainbows. Two were pale, but one had healthy color.

Ended up picking up the rod for $140.00. It was brand new with the warranty card and all. It is a sweet rod. I will use this rod for trout fishing in the PA spring creeks. I hope to put Lamson Waterworks Litespeed reel on it. Not sure on a line yet. It will be used mostly for nymphing.

I used a plain old Cortland 444 line on my Avid 5wt, and definitely wouldn't
over-line it with one of the 5 1/2 lines.

Enjoy!

Frank
Casted the rod a little today with a RIO Trout 5wt that I had on another rod. It worked very well and I was thrilled at how well it casted in the wind we have been getting here today.

Excellent! My 9' 5wt Avid was really nice, but I had too many 5wt's a few years ago, and decided to sell some off. I also sold a really nice (and nearly new) St. Croix Legend Ultra 5wt. I did keep my 7 1/2' 4wt St. Croix Imperials, but use them about twice a year......

Enjoy that rod!
