Default Re: Need some help deciding on a new rod

Beulah makes fine sticks, I cannot say anything bad about them. One thing that you need to figure out is how you are going to fish the rod. Each rod will handle a payload differently.

4 weight - Generally this line weight rating works best with light loads. The flies that you will be throwing are generally smaller and lightly weighted or unweighted.

5 weight - This is the most versatile line weight rating for trout rods for the West. It can throw the same flies that a 4 weight can throw, plus it can throw almost anything that a 6 weight could throw.

6 weight - This can throw anything that a 5 weight can throw, but it can throw larger and heavier streamers better than a 5 weight. Within the Guide Series of rods, the 6 weight has more lifting power just in case you have to fight a fish in the vertical plane. Also this would be a great choice if wind is an issue.
