Default Thoughts on Cabela's Three Forks 3wt

I'm thinking about picking up a Three Forks 3 wt for $29 and overlining it with a 4 wt line. I already have a 9ft 5wt rod but wanted to get something shorter for the small streams I mostly fish. Can anyone who has used this rod provide some thoughts on it? Also how would it compare to a TFO Lefty Kreh Signature Series 3 wt?

Thanks,
Lee

Another good resource are the reviews given on the Cabela's website.

Cheers,

I just got the 2 pc. 9' 6wt. For $29 it's an amazing deal. It is a pretty fast rod for the money. Casts great. My Canadian freind does way better than 100' casts with one. He just got a 3 Forks 4, 5 and 10 wt. I looked the 10 wt. over and thought it was a heck of a rod for the money. Seriously, how bad can you go wrong for that kind of money. I'd get it.

Actually it would have been a heck of a rod for a lot more money.

I had a 3 Forks 3wt and unlike most other people that really love theirs, I just never cared for it.
Ended up selling it for more than I paid... I did like that part

Everyone says why they liked theirs, why didn't you like it?

I don't know, the action just seemed "dead" to me. I fished it quite a bit too, using both DT and WF lines
I tend to do that with rods that I can't figure out.

I got mine at the cabelas bargain bin for 15 bucks,,, I love mine I think the medium fast action is perfect and feels very similar to my buddys sage vantage.

I think it fishes way better than my diamondback americana too,,,,, excellent rod for the money!

If these are as good as everyone says, i could be tempted to pick one up also. However, i'll have to hide it from the other half, since i just bought a new 5wt a couple months ago, and my current collection of 2 rods is not enough to just sneak it into the pile!

But, if i keep on at this rate of one rod every 2 months, this time next year sneaking it in the stack should be no problem at all!

Well I did it. I just ordered the Three Forks 3Wt/Prestige Plus combo for $59. I know the reel and line are going to be rubbish but I just couldn't afford to get a reel from Justin (yet). So for $59 I get the rod, reel, backing and fly line. That should hold me over for the rest of the season.
