Default Old Bamboo Fly Rod

I found this rod in an old rod case of my dad or grandfathers.

Looks like it's a bamboo 7 weight. Made in Canada. Brand is Great Lakes, but I can't find any info on them.

Does anyone have any information on this rod?

That's a fiberglass rod painted to look like cane. Excellent condition too.
I've heard of the Great Lakes brand, but don't know anything about them.

Thanks Rip Tide. I appreciate the reply. How can you tell that it's fiberglass?

If that's the case, I won't have any reservations about taking it with me on a trip to the Black Hills in South Dakota next month to test out. Although, it's a bit heavy for small stream trout.

The blank is cylindrical. Bamboo rods have 4, 5, but usually 6 sides. If they were rounded, they'd loose strength. The strongest fibers of the cane are on the outer layer
Also the blank taper at the grip. A (solid) bamboo rod would have no need to be that thick, while a heavier (hollow) glass rod does. It's a 7wt at least
