The favorite of all my rods is my newly acquired TFO TiCRx! If I could I would swap out every single one of my existing streamer/nymphing rods for one of these. Problem is they don't make them in anything lower then a 6wt.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's a pic of my first "expensive" flyrod purchased back when $109 was expensive, Orvis Fullflex "A" 9'-0" 5 3/4oz GAF(9). By todays standards a real beast, as I tell my sons "cast it for a day and it'll make a man out of you". They call it the "big dog".

Compared to the Shakespeare GAF Wonderrod it replaced it is a dream to cast (I do wish I would have kept that Shakespeare white rod). It loads and throws a big fly well for a slow fullfex action. The reel seat has some corrosion for years of salt water fishing and gathers dust while I use the latest graphite "rod of the month". But I developed a long time fondness for this one.

A pice also shows my tricked out Orvis Madison #9 (Medalist 1498) with oldie "hi-tech" add-ons (bronze drag & counter weight).

Pete A.

PS.: back then $109 included a fine aluminum rod case

Just got my first Bamboo dropped on the porch this morning. It's a rebuilt South Bend, started life as a 9' now it's a 6'2". The builder rated it at a 4/5 and it throws a WF4 nicely but I think I'm going to get a DT4 and see how it does. It was rebuilt by Ed of Beck Custom rods, I found it on Ebay and picked it up for $117.50 shipped, not bad for such a nice rod! Now I need to figure out what reel to get for it, I'd like to find a small click/pawl reel but not sure wich one yet, I was thinking an Abel TR1 but who knows.

I've looked at several fellas who have been recycling rods like this for years. The rods offer outstanding value and some of that old Heddon cane is hard to beat appearance wise. Don't misunderstand; the South Bend cane you have there is very nice wood what I would call 'blond' bamboo.

I figure you'll love that rod and at the price......... !

Cheezeanrice Ard! That's an "OLD" rod?? Mine look older than that after I've had them one day.

I'd have to wear surgical gloves to keep the cork looking like that and probably scrub them with dawn and clorox twice a day besides.
