Well an almost new green stick showed up in the mail today inside a nice green tube- so I'm now a first time Winston owner! I casted and fished an 8' 3wt BIIt and loved it so much I had to have one. And I once swore I'd never spend anything over $200 on a fly rod. So much for that.

I love Winston. Their have an unrivaled fealing and the reel seats are gorgeous. I honestly prefer the box elder burl to any reel seat they have had before. The nickle silver seat is so shiny you can see my reflection in it. Epoxy and wraps are gorgeous. The cork is top-notch. What else is there to say?

Sorry for all the pictures but this rod does not have a bad side .

Waiting until I have the funds but I think I'm going to put an Orvis Battenkill Bar Stock II reel on her with some new Rio LT DT line and call it good. Won't need it until spring anyways, which can not come fast enough!

Ahhhh... the green light saber! Click the image to open in full size.

Congrats on that rod! Some people (few) just don't understand the attraction Winston has for some us. Once you start using that rod you'll no doubt find the attraction goes way deeper than just the workmanship.
That is a beaut for sure!

Thanks! I would never spend several hundred dollars on a fly rod without knowing that I loved it, and once I cast and fished a friends BIIt in this config, I knew it was the one for me. I also got to cast a BIIx 8'6" 4wt, and I've tried the BIIIx, but my personal preference is for slower rods, and this medium action beauty is as smooth as they come.

Beautiful rod there newly, congrats on your purchase. I have to agree, the fit and finish of Winston rods is exceptional. That BBS II would make for a nice pairing with it. Other options I'd suggest are an older CFO II or better yet a Hardy Featherweight.

So, i brought this home today....

Click the image to open in full size.

I finally got fed up with dealing with all the thick brush on our Oregon coastal and valley rivers. Now i just need to learn how to use a switch rod.

It is from a small company on the east coast somewhere as far as i know. It is a "Heritage switch rod" in a 7/8/9 wt, 10'6" 3pc. Kinda broad weight scope. However, i got it for a good price. Rod and reel for $300. I used up some gift certs to the fly shop so i only had $150 out of pocket. When i get more comfortable with spey casts i will get a better switch rod.

Anyone know anything about this brand?
