Well, I had the opportunity to try my buddy's Zenith. While I'm sure somebody can find some fault with the rod, I sure couldn't... at least for my casting style and preferences. The rod is extremely light, very responsive, incredibly smooth, and the balance is superb. Because of those attributes, the rod was as accurate a rod as I have ever cast, and a pleasure to do so. The hardware and fit and finish is about as good as it gets.

With that said, I haven't had the chance to try other rods in the Zenith's category and price range. I'm sure I could find another high end rod, or an even lesser priced rod that would match it. However, I'd be willing to bet that I would have to spend a lot more money to go through several rods before being able to find one.

If you have the money, and can test cast one, I would certainly do so. If the rod matches your casting style (this is important), I think you will be impressed. On the other hand, if you like a rod with more of a moderate action, the Zenith may not be your cup of tea.

Ronnie, I dug up your post from the general forum and responded with some of the threads where the Zenith has been discussed.

Fly rods

This should give you a good start.

I have a 9'0" 5 wt. It's a very nice rod.

Light in the hand, accurate, easily capable of long distance casts, sensitive enough to cast in close, mends well with a WF5F line; feels great and gives you good feedback with a fish on the line.

I'd put it on par with my 9'0" Sage Z-Axis 5 wt.; which I think is comparable to the Sage One and, in my opinion, ahead of the GLoomis NRX.

I cast it at the Marlboro fly fishing show and can say with confidence that the reel seat is double ugly. Good luck finding a reel that looks good on it. That's the only bad thing I can think of. It casts like a dream.

I think the most aesthetically elegant 9x5 on the market right now is the Winston BIIIx, but it costs more than the Hardy, and at least some who have tried both think the Hardy casts better.
