Speaking of the CT, I got another

Managed to break my favorite 3wt about a year ago...and it was the rod my wife usually fishes as well, so replacing it has been on my mind. After fishing a few borrowed Redington CT's it became clear to me that for the $$$ they are a great stick.

I got myself a 8'6" 5wt this spring and fished it on 3 trips so far to the E Sierra. It has not been a disappointment, to say the least. So....today my friendly UPS guy dropped off the new 8'6" 3wt that my wifey will be fishing for a week in July. woo hoo! It's not a Sage One, but it's the one for us.

that was the other of two rods i was looking at.
ended up going with ORVIS Clearwater 905-4
but i think when its time for a smaller 3wt rod ill look at CT

Hi Mikel, I was the person who started the thread about the Medium action fly rod reccomendations, and I saw you were a big proponent of the CT. My standard trout rod broke today (no warranty) so I'm in the market for a quick fix and eventual backup rod. For the price, I completely agree the CT is the best up until the $500+ range. Long story short, I'm getting one.

What reels have you paired with the CT? I'll be getting the 8' 4wt and am looking for something to balance it slightly heavier so it will have a better swing weight.

I'd probably go with Redington's Drift reel in the 3/4 size. I'm one that also prefers the reel a bit heavy to reduce swing weight, but for a given reel, there's a big difference in swing weight between a 8' rod and a 9' rod.

The 8.5' 5wt CT is a fairly light rod, so I'm sure the 8' 4wt is lighter still. That should be a marvelous small stream rod that still can throw a hopper or bugger as needed.

Well considering the size of the fish I'm after, I'll definitely want a drag system, but after consulting the interwebs, I now know I am looking for something equal to or greater than 3.7 oz.

How much do you want to spend on the reel? There are plenty of options available.

One of my Far Bank Pro Staff guide friends has Redington Rise reels on his CT rods. (Far Bank = Sage, Rio, Redington)

When I worked in a shop, I mostly matched CT rods with Drift reels. The Drift reel has enough power in the click and pawl to prevent overruns.

Like I said, there are plenty of options available.

Bakerboy...just got back from exercising both CT's tossing dries...I have an Orvis BBS II on the 3 wt that I've had for years. It's 3.5 oz and the balance is fine for me.

For the other CT lovers, as you may know the line was recently discontinued.

The line was replaced with a rod that has been purpused as something with a similar action. Can't remember the name of the line off the top of my head.

There are excellent deals on CT's right now. You can find one on cabelas for 100 and sierra trading post for even cheaper.

Just bought one for 82 with shipping.

Just thought I'd share the good deal with good people.

Not exactly news as this has been the case for over a month but I couldn't agree more. Its a great time to buy a wonderful Redington Classic Trout. The rod that replaced it is the Tempt. My 8' 4wt CT is pretty much my go to trout rod. I pair it with a Moss colored Rise 3/4 reel. My small stream rod is a 7'6" CT with a Greys Streamlite 2/3. Best rod deal on the market.

i only see it for $100 on Cabelas,
for $80 i might just order me a 3wt,
