Am looking to purchase the above rod. I like the Sage rods. Any others I should be looking at?

For high end I really enjoy the ZXL. Awesome rod for a trout rod. For low end, the Amundson midge, A delicate, smooth casting #3/4 pack rod, inspired by the finest hard wood finish stream rods,
the Amundson "Midge": 8' 3wt/4wt, 4pc (with a 3wt tip & a 4wt tip!), around $160 US. NOTE: while you may be put off by its 1 year warranty, that is unconditional free over the counter exchange. After 1 year for this rod the cost to repair is $15 for tip and $30 for butt section.

There are all kinds of places to purchase fly rods in the Durango area. Also, Scott fly rods are made not too far from there. So go into some of the shops and give some test throws on various rods. Then see which one YOU like and that will fit your pocket book.

As for brands, there are plenty of good ones out in the market. I'm with Hardhat on this one. Find one of local retailers, and go test throw a few rods.

I second oregonsteel's recommendation on the Sage ZLX. That blank, in a 9'0" 4 wt. has become my standard trout rod. For me, it will do most everything that my 9'0" Z-Axis 5 wt. will do; except for throwing the long ball, where the Z-Axis really excels.

I use the Sage ZXL 8'6" 4wt for 99% of my fishing. It'll throw a #6 Madame X as easily as a #18 BWO. It's a great rod for wind, but will land a fly sooo gently! I accidently used a reel with 5wt GPX line on the rod a few days ago, and didn't realize it until the following day. It cast the 5 (5.5) wt line with ease, and if you plan to overline a rod, that might be useful. The only thing I noticed while unwittingly fishing the 5.5wt line was that my fly was landing a bit harder (a #6 foam bug). I've considered trying the 9' 4wt ZXL, but there's nothing more I want in a rod......and I've fished this rod for nearly two years.
