Brian,

I don’t agree with your premise, that simply because someone bought a used rod at less than half of its original retail price. That Scott should offer to replace a section of the rod for less than half of their going rate.

But there is a glimmer of hope, if you purchased a used rod from Leland's.
I just did a quick web search for you and it turns out that they extend a warranty on used Scott rods they sell for 18 months to the new owner. Which in my book, is more than fair....

WARRANTY Sage Scott Winston items in Leland Fly Fishing Outfitters store on eBay!

LEARN ABOUT LELAND UPGRADE items in Leland Fly Fishing Outfitters store on eBay!

If you’ve had your used rod longer than that, they'll still process your repair for you.

That warranty coverage, even though you may not have had to exercise it during it's life, added even more value to your purchase. I'd say you're money ahead on that rod, at this point.

Welcome to the forum.

TT

Just send it back to Scott.I sent my 8wt Heli-ply back a year ago for a broken tip and had it back within a month. Not only did I get a new tip but Scott replaced the ferules and rewrapped the mid section at no cost to me.You cant beat that kind of service.

Brian, I have been out of the loop and missed your original post but here is my out-of-the-box take: You should return the rod to Scott for repair or, if that is too expensive relative to your perceived value of the rod, just discard it. How did you break the rod in the first place? I, for one, read a lot about rod purchase choices based on no-fault warranties and I don't get it. I would vastly prefer that warranties cover materials and workmanship for the original regisisterd owner and not INFLATE the rod's price with free replacement/repair options. If you break it, it was your error that caused the damage, why should a manufacturer condone your error? Treat your tackle with appropriate respect and damage is very unlikely. This unconditional warranty makes babies of the consumer rather than allowing us to take repsonsability for our actions, however, I must admit I would like the McCallan to offer the same warranty. I can see myself striding indignantly into my local purveyor of adult beverages and declaring; "I bought this bottle just two weeks ago and look at it now, empty and useless! I demand a replacement bottle!"
