Does anyone know about classic orvis rod?

I have an old 'orvis impregnated' fly rod. Its 9' long and its a 2 piece. It only says 'orvis impregnated' nothing else. The serial numbers are 22375. Im just wondering if anyone knows what year this rod is? My grandfather gave it to me and it was his grandfathers too. I would just like to know how old this rod is and maybe some info too?

You can contact the Orvis rod shop and with that serial number they'll be able to tell you everything about the rod including the day that it was made and the name of the guy who made it.

There's a partial list of Orvis bamboo rods by serial number here:

Yours isn't listed, but judging from the sequence of the serial number it was built in 1957.

If you call Orvis and ask them to connect you to whoever keeps the database, they can confirm that and tell you the rest of the info about your particular rod -- how much it weighs, what line it was made for, where it was originally sold, perhaps who the builder was. I have called them to ask about bamboo rods in the past and they were very friendly and helpful. They like keeping track of their old rods and helping the current owners enjoy them.
