Default Help Identify Antique Bamboo Rod...

Hello All,

I am a dealer of antiques and collectibles, and I recently purchased this antique bamboo fishing rod/pole; unfortunately, old fishing gear is not my area of expertise. I am hoping someone here might be able to help me identify this item. (Link below will direct you to an image hosted on my public FaceBook page, The EYE of KIEV .)

The rod is made of of 8 section of telescopic bamboo; the total assembled length is about 11 feet. Condition is excellent; no splits or cracks, and the finish appears to be original.

Additional clues: there are no metal ring-guides for fishing line, and no apparent reel-mount; the sections can be stored within one another; I can find no name or maker's mark.

I think this could be a rod for Tenkara style fishing; but it doesn't look very much like other examples found online.

Any and all assistance would be wonderful, thanks!

Best,

KJK

I think that it's definitely a bamboo tenkara rod
There's similar ones on the web, but none nearly as nice as that.

Yes, I think we're all in agreement: a very nice example of an antique Tenkara fishing pole.

Many thanks to all who chimed in!

That has to be one of the most fascinating fishing rods I've ever seen.
