Default TFO Axiom 8wt

So I am heading to Louisiana in a few days, and I wantd to bone up on my double-haul. I loaded up the truck with a few 8wts and headed to a local pond. Everything I took was 9ft, 4pieces. I took an Orvis Helios, a TFO Axiom, an older Loomis GL3, a TFO BVK, and an Orvis T3 7wt that I am very fond of. I was throwing Rio Outbound short Tropical, an SA Titan Taper, and the Wulff Bermuda Short in WF-8-F of the 8wts, and an Outbound Short Tropical on the T3 in WF-7-F.

I used a little paddle boat to put amrkers at 40ft, 60ft, and 80ft. I know, I know, I will probably never have to throw that far down there in the salt marshes, but what they heck. All performed very well, and the Helios was distancing itself from the herd until I lined-up the Axiom. HOLY "stuff"-on-a-shingle!! That rod is an absolute cannon!

Yep, its heavier than most of the others, but when you load it properly, wowee! I was able to shoot the entire line and about 15-20 feet of backing no problem at all! That thing is power personified!

So I'll bet you think I'll be taking the Axiom? Sure, but only as a back-up in case of stiff wind. The Helios and BVK's will be my two main rods. They are just effortless to 60 feet. I'm leaving my beloved 7wt T3 at home....maybe a mistake....maybe not. Its a mid flex, and loads well, but I think the 8's are a better choice.

I have a T and T. 5wt, like your Axiom. I don't know HOW far that baby will cast. Longer than any rod I ever picked up though. There's long distance then there's this T and T -No Sanctuary.

Not my speed however. I'm a trout fisherman without huge trout water.

The Axiom 8 and 9 weights are popular in Nor Cal as shooting head rods with the Striped Bass. They will handle the usual recommended grain weights for shooting heads and then some.
