I fish mainly for stream browns and occasionally bass. I am leaning towards a 5 weight but a 4 is not outta the question. I have been thinking sage tcx, one, circa or loomis streamdance, whisper creek or glx. What's everyone's thoughts on 4 vs 5 and what rod to get if money is not an option.

Thanks guys
Chip,

I would definitely not go with a 4-weight for bass. 4-wt's are typically designed for dry fly fishing and would not be a good choice for most bass fishing.

As far as rod choice, there are a few rods that stand out in the "all-around" category:
  • Hardy Zenith
  • Loomis NRX LP
  • Sage ONE
  • Orvis H2

What kind of fishing will you be doing more of? Dries? Streamers? Nymphing?

I will be fishing most dries and streamers but would like a good all around rod. What about the normal nrx. Not the LP.

Well I pulled the trigger today on a 9' 5 wt NRX LP.

Can't wait to get my hands on her. Anyone with any experience or thoughts about rod would be nice to know.

Thanks for your input guys

Did the Yellowstone Angler shootout have anything to do with your selection?

It did have an impact on which rods I trial tested. I went to my fly shop today and cast a bunch of rods. Helios 2, sage tcx, circa and one, hardy zenith, Winston bIIIx, loomis streamdance.

The NRX LP out preformed all these rods x 10 with my casting stroke. I tested it beside the regular NrX and its a totally different stick. I now understand why it won the shoot out.
