Default New Improved Hardy Zenith

Something I said or did, or somewhere I wandered on the internet, got me onto Hardy's email list. Anyhoo, I got an email the other day announcing a whole portfolio of new Hardy products. One that really caught my eye was the Zenith rod they have been selling for a few years now, but with a redesigned reel seat -- dark nickel or aluminum with a wood burl spacer. Classic and elegant. I have been lusting after a Zenith ever since they first came out, but I just hated that zigzag two-tone skeleton reel seat, so I never worked up quite enough reckless willpower to whip out the old checkbook and write out that big number. But now! Do I want an 8 1/2' 4 wt, or a 9' 5 wt? Or both? Decisions, decisions...

I purchased the Zenith 8'-6" 4wt. at the beginning of the year. I wasn't crazy about the reel seat, but once I mounted a Lamson Speedster on it, I loved the setup. Looks good with that reel and a change from the other rods I have. I wouldn't normally be attracted to a metal reel seat, but that's what it came with. I don't stand there and admire it, I just fish with it.

The rod will punch out a lot of line but is a faster action than what I really prefer. My go to rod is a ZXL with a Hardy Featherweight and a Rio Gold WF3F line. The Zenith feels more like my VXP. I find both of those 4wts. better in windy conditions. The one thing I do like is the feel of the Zenith, very light in the hand.

Love my 486' Zenith. Even with the ugly Reel Seat.

I love everything about my old 8wt Zenith from the tip to the fighting butt.
I think the skeleton reel seat is modern looking and looks really cool.
