The CGT is as handsome as some custom glass rods. If I could wiggle one, I might pull the trigger on it. Just not sure it loads quick enough for my ambush, super delicate, short range casting. Wish I could get a first hand look at one.

At least buy a rod from a "rod company", whose main business is designing and selling fly rods. If you want an inexpensive rod, fine. There are many legitimate Fly Rod Companies that build affordable products, get a rod from them.

Cabelas is the 1000lb Gorilla of the sporting goods retailers. They shamelessly push their Cabelas branded products, some of which are ok, but a lot of it is just cheap "stuff". It is sad that good, legitimate rod companies do business with them. As all they do is use the Sages, Winstons, and G. Loomis's to bring fly fishermen in the door, and then they push the more inexpensive, Cabelas branded product to close the sale. Why these manufacturers enable them is mysterious.

But it is what it is.

No help to the OP, but just a rant against the big box stores.
Hmmm, I have been to Cabela's stores across the country and have never ever had anyone push a Cabela's branded product on me. Cabela's does sell a lot of low end stuff but they also have Cabela's branded products made by Simms, Lamson and others. You don't get the personal attention or expertise that you get in a fly shop but I think these stores have their place. I don't particularly like their rods in my experience but they aren't the devil.

Not sure exactly what you're looking for in an action but my CGt is a fast glass rod and like a med-fast graphite. I really like it for the sale price. I've had people ask me if it is custom bamboo because, as you say, it is a good lookin rod. I can load a 3 wt DT line with about 10'. It casts pretty good for a 5'9" rod. Really fun creek rod for brookies and gills and I landed a big carp on it. Click the image to open in full size.
