Default Hardy Zenith one

Just purchased a close out one piece Hardy zenith 5wt. Anyone out there who has one what line do you like best with this rod . I read the Yellowstone shout out Mr Anderson likes the SA GPX line in his report . Any other option,s ?

With all do genuine respect for George Anderson; the GPX is a too heavy dull design not only for this rod but the wrong line for his tests which negatively impacts many rods in the "Shootouts". I fish the 4pc. Zenith #5 which is not as sweet as the one piece and I covet the one piece 4-weight which is even better, and the right line is the RIO Gold (what I use) or the SA Textured Trout if you can handle the hiss.

I have the four piece 5 wt and use the SA Textured line, unbelievable performance, I just love the way that rod performs. I can only imagine how much better the one piece performs, you are in for a real treat. Congrats on picking that rod up on a discount.

I second the Rio Gold, that is a great line for the Zenith.

I should add to this thread that the 4 and 1 piece versions of both Zenith and Proaxis are very different tapers. It is not like they re-did the rod sans ferrules, it is designed from the get go as a 1 piece rod. All the 1 piece rods are 8'10" to comply with UPS shipping standards and have a little more in the butt section. I fish an 8 1/2'/#4 and 9'/#5 Zenith (+ a 9'/#9 Proaxis) and, while I like both of them a lot, I prefer the #5. I have cast a number of the 1 piece rods next to their 4 piece counterparts and ALL of them are better. The 8'10"/#4 in particular blows both my #4 and #5 away. It is one super duper trout rod. Maybe for next season.

Thanks guys I have I both lines ,I will try both see which I like best although I am not fond of the hiss. Could not resist the price on this rod under 350 shipped. I read only difference in lates model is reel seat . If it that offensive I could change it and still some lots of coins. I always line up at home before travel to the river.it will fit my suv

Though not inspiring, I have no problem with the original reel seat which is functionally first rate. The new "improved" one is more traditional in appearance to appeal to the spring and pawl Hardy conservatives. You did good.

The one piece zenith arrived today ,what a big package so surprised , now how will I store this monster tube and long sock. Was pleased when I got down to the rod liked the looks of the rod color and single foot guides although smaller than what I expected and the reel seat was nice I didn't mind the way it lockup very positive .can't wate to try it out . Will pair it with a Lamson f2 or a Ari T Hart Remco trout with a gold spool the Hart balances mid way of the grip the Lamson balances near the front of the grip. May get a chance to lawn cast this weekend . Try to fish ASAP. Noting like a new toy to get excited about .
