Default Who has ORVIS Helios2 6wt Tip Flex?? feedback?

so I'm looking at possibly picking up Orvis Helios2 6wt tip flex,
this would be my goto stick for bucking streamers and nymph set ups and for windy days. (i have 3, 4, 5 wt for my dry fly fishing as needed)

who here has Helios2 6wt in Tip Flex or has cast it vs few other maker leaders?
are Helios really that amazing?
Orvis has 20% off outfits right now, so its tempting.

and how are Orvis HYDRO lines?

thanks

I've been fishing my H2 6 weight for about a year now. I love it. It is very powerful and can throw some pretty large bass bugs and streamers. It has a lot of feel, but I do admit, I like it a little better with a Rio Gold. The hydros line is a good line and casts well on the rod, but I like a 1/2 weight heavy line on any fast action rod I have. I got my outfit with the Mirage iii reel also. I really like that reel alot. It is very smooth and looks great on the rod also.

I really can't tell you too much other than I test cast the H2 #5 tip-flex and liked it a lot. I would guess I might like the #6 even better. It is medium fast with a responsive tip not fast like the top Sage rods for example. If I were to cross shop it, it would be against Scott Radian...I have cast that in 6-weight and t is a honey. These two rods could be dry fly rods when distance and/or wind and perhaps larger flies like stones and hoppers were factors. Orvis lines are made by SA so they are top drawer and I would take their advice on which was best though, if I were buying this rod as an outfit, I might up the reel one size and substitute the long belly "Mend" line for the standard WF...but first I would try it out at a shop and check the reel for proper balance.

The Orvis Hydros Power Taper line is 1/2 size heavy. I'm sure Orvis would be happy to put one of those rather than the standard weight on your reel if you're buying a whole outfit.

I have a 6 wt tip flex Orvis Hydros rod (a short-lived Orvis model that was built on the same blank as the first-generation Helios, but with less expensive hardware) that I like a lot. The Helios 2 is presumably even better. It's a great rod for streamers and weighted rigs and windy conditions and double-hauling for distance. It lacks a bit of finesse in close because of its stiffness, but it can still do the job when necessary in that situation too.

I like my own rod a little better with the Orvis power taper or long-belly salmon/steelhead line than with a standard WF6, but YMMV.

well with 20% off outfits that Orvis is doing right now it was very tempting.
i cast 6wt Mid flex and Tip flex side by side, and lucky me it was quite a bit windy the other day so i got to cast it into some heavy wind.
i really liked mid flex as it felt a bit smoother, but that Tip flex could really throw the line out and in a straight line, so performed really well.
i ended up picking up whole set up at 20% off.
i up'd for Hydros 3D line vs regular while at it.
thanks for the feedback. imlooking forward to using this rod.

i actually really wanted to buy it at my local shop, but they don't really have sales, and 20% was quite a difference so i got it from orvis direct.

Very awesome. I just got the H2 9' #6 Saltwater to use for my streamer/foamy windy dry fly rod. I was stuck between all of the competitors and liked all of the rods i cast! I was able to get the best deal on the Orvis and also like their warranty policy the best

I'm going to start with a Rio Gold #6 on mine and adjust from there.

I'm going to try to not buy another rod for a long time!

I was debating to get the salt water 6wt for the fighting butt, but ended up getting fresh water one w/out it.
