Question How is the weight determined

Not line weight but the weight of the rod ?
Like my BIIIX 9 foot 5 wt is 2 5/8 oz
Can't be cork reel seat and eyes or is it just the blank?
And are all rod makers using the same weighing standards?

I've wondered that too, bet it has something to do with the rod blank.

I'll bet there's not a lot of consistency among manufacturers.

My Sage ZXL 8' 2 wt says 2 oz. on its label. It weighs 2.6 oz. on my postal scale. That's with guides, cork, and reel seat. In other words, the whole rod.

Also, my Sage ONE 8' 6" 4 wt says 2 7/16 oz. on the label. It weighs 2.5 oz.

So, Sage at least is pretty close to the actual weights.

Check here, but no consensus:

Any Sense to the Weight of Rods Inscribed by the Manufacturers?

One other point about this.

I have two of the 'same' rod - the ZXL 8' 2 wt. One is a factory-built rod. The other was built from a blank.

The factory rod that I mentioned above is the one that weighs 2.6 oz.

The rod from a blank weighs 2.3 oz. Almost all the weight difference is in the butt section. The corks are about the same size. The reel seats are both wood. You can see that there's more (thicker) finish over the logo and hook keeper on the factory rod.

These rods show how easy it is for the weights to vary by a little.

When you are dealing with such a slight deviation could this be the calibration of the scale ? Also , I would guess there is a difference in each piece of cork and wood insert in density. Another words , too many variables ?

Can you really tell the difference ? S&S I believe made a relation to the rod feedback when I asked this question. That I can understand in theory although I may not be able to detect it myself.
