Default Hey, you Winston folks..... Tell me about the GVX rods

Title says it all..... Wife tried one and kind of likes it. I know they are discontinued but there are a few around..... I am to be the buyer if you know what I mean.

I have the 6wt 9' and like it a lot. Was the "cheaper" BIIIx without the boron. Paired mine with a Hardy DD 5000 and SA textured trout WF-F.
Punches into the wind and can toss drys, nymphs and streamers good all around rod, in a 6wt.

I've got two and both my wife and I love them. A 9' 5 weight and a 8.5' 4 weight. Great all around rods that will do just about everything well. They are not screaming cannons but they not soft buggy whips either. Both of them but especially the 4 weight have good power down into the butt and can throw some line when needed. Build quality is excellent on both of them - just what you would expect from Winston. We've fished them from Michigan to Montana and never been let down. Very sad to see a good quality rod at a reasonable price discontinued.

Just bought one on closeout myself, an 8 1/2' 4 wt. Seems very nice based on a little practice casting, but I haven't had the chance to fish it yet. I was asking the same kind of questions a couple of months ago and here's that thread:

4 weight 8' 6" -- Winston GVX or other?

Thanks for the info guys. I suspect there is going to be a new green rod in the house pretty soon and possibly a second as there is one of those long term wedding (40 plus years) things needed also.....

Thanks
