Default St Croix Legend Elite 968-4

These rods are listed as fast action, The one I have is pretty soft in the tip and bends a good ways down with a foot long trout on. I have,nt hooked a large one on it yet to see how long it takes to land it. Any body else find this rod soft. Thanks

I have a 906-4 and while my Sage Xi-2 and TCX are faster rods. The Legend Elite isn't exactly a wet noodle. It has handled redfish to 5 or 6 pounds with ease. I do not get the same distance with it as with the Sages for the same apparent effort, however.

While they are called fast action, they are actually more medium fast. They have a fairly strong butt section and a softer tip. That's how they were designed. The St Croix Imperial is that way too. I own the Imperial 8' 6" 4 weight and like it very much. I would not classify either rod as soft though.

No I would,nt call it a noodle rod. I am a fan of fast rods right now I use 4 rods from day to day, BVK 7# 9'4 piece a Orvis Clearwater II 8# 9'4 piece a Ross Essence FC 9' 5# 4 piece and can land trout faster with either rod than the 9'6"4 piece. I have discovered it handles a 9# better than a 8# Longer distance and more accurate. Don,t get me wrong, I love the rod but I thought it would be faster. Just something I observed.
